This policy describes how content on IT Edits is produced, checked and corrected.
Originality
Everything published here is written for this site. We do not republish articles from elsewhere, spin existing content, or reproduce manufacturer marketing copy as though it were our own description of a product.
Factual specifications are recorded from manufacturer documentation, which is how specifications work: a socket type is a fact, not a piece of writing. The explanation of what that socket means, and whether it matters for your build, is ours.
Accuracy and fact checking
Technical claims are checked against manufacturer documentation or published standards before an article goes live. Where a figure comes from someone else, it is attributed and linked.
Hardware records in our database each store a source and a verification date. A record whose verification date has passed our staleness threshold is flagged for re-checking in the admin interface. Nothing is unpublished automatically; a person decides.
We distinguish between three kinds of statement, and try to make clear which is which: what a manufacturer specifies, what follows logically from that specification, and what is our judgement or recommendation.
Use of AI tools
AI tools may be used in producing content on this site, for drafting, editing or research assistance. Where they are, the output is reviewed and verified by a person before publication, and the person publishing it is responsible for it.
Nothing is published unreviewed. Specifically: no article is generated and posted automatically, no technical claim goes live without being checked against a source, and no AI-written text is published on the basis that it sounded plausible. An AI tool is capable of producing a confident, well-structured statement about a socket compatibility that is simply untrue, which is exactly the failure this site exists to help people avoid.
Corrections
When we find or are told about an error, we correct it. Factual errors are fixed as soon as we can confirm the correct information.
Significant corrections, meaning anything that changes the advice a reader would act on, are noted on the page so you can see that something changed and what it was. Minor fixes such as typing errors are made without a note.
To report an error, email [email protected] with the page address and what you believe is wrong.
Updates
Hardware advice ages. Articles carry a review date showing when the content was last checked against current hardware and current prices.
That date changes only when someone has reviewed the page. It does not change because the site was restyled or the software updated. A review date that moves for technical reasons tells the reader nothing and quietly misrepresents how current the advice is.
Independence
Compatibility results are produced by the rules in our compatibility engine and by nothing else. No commercial arrangement affects what the builder reports, and no component is excluded from results because it earns us nothing.
If we ever accept sponsored content, it will be labelled as sponsored, prominently, on the content itself. Sponsorship does not buy a recommendation, and a sponsor does not see content before publication.
If we add affiliate links, they will be disclosed on the pages that carry them. An affiliate relationship will never change which component the builder reports as compatible.
Advertising
Any advertising on this site will be visually distinct from editorial content and labelled as advertising. We will not place advertisements where they could be mistaken for navigation, for component recommendations, or for tool results, and we will not use layouts designed to attract accidental clicks.
The site is designed to work and to be worth reading with no advertising at all.
