About IT Edits

Who runs IT Edits, what the site does, what it deliberately does not claim to do, and how to reach us about a correction.

Who runs this site

IT Edits is written and maintained by Vlad, who has been building and repairing desktop PCs for years. That experience is the reason this site exists: the same handful of compatibility mistakes come up again and again, and most of them are avoidable with a check that takes thirty seconds if you know to make it.

This is an independent site. It is not owned by a retailer, a manufacturer, or a media group, and no company has any say in what appears here.

What this site does

Three things, in order of how much work went into them.

The PC Builder checks a set of components against each other and tells you what it finds. Sockets, memory generation and slot count, physical clearance for the graphics card and cooler, radiator fit, power connectors, and whether the power supply has enough capacity. It runs sixteen separate checks and explains each result rather than showing a green tick.

The guides explain how each component works and what actually matters when choosing one. They are written for someone about to spend money, not for someone revising for an exam.

The tools handle the specific calculations that come up while planning: power supply sizing, memory capacity, storage capacity, upgrade priorities, and what a monitor asks of a graphics card. Each one shows its arithmetic.

What we do not do

We do not run a test laboratory. We have not benchmarked the hardware discussed on this site, and we do not claim to have. Our analysis is based on manufacturer specifications, standards documentation, and practical experience assembling machines. Where we refer to performance figures produced by someone else, we say whose they are and link to them.

This matters because the distinction is frequently blurred elsewhere. A site that says “in our testing” without having tested anything is telling you something untrue about where its information came from, and you cannot judge the information without knowing that.

We also do not score or rank hardware out of ten. Component choice depends on what you already own, what you are doing with the machine, and what you can spend. A single ranking cannot capture that, and a number tends to be trusted more than it deserves.

How the compatibility checks work

Each check is a separate rule with a single job. A rule inspects the parts you have selected, decides whether it has enough information to say anything useful, and returns one of four answers: compatible, a note worth reading, a likely conflict, or unable to verify.

That fourth answer is the one that matters most. When a specification is missing from our data, the builder says so instead of assuming the parts fit. A tool that quietly guesses is worse than no tool, because you stop checking for yourself.

The methodology page covers this in more detail, including where our hardware data comes from and how it is verified.

How this site is funded

At the time of writing, this site carries no advertising and has no affiliate relationships. If that changes, it will be disclosed here and on the pages concerned, and the disclosure will appear before the content it applies to rather than in a footer.

Two commitments regardless of what funding arrives. Compatibility results are produced by the rules described above and by nothing else: no commercial arrangement can change what the builder reports, and no component will be hidden because it earns us nothing. And any sponsored content will be labelled as sponsored, in the same place and the same size as the rest of the page.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, please tell us and we will fix it. Hardware specifications change, manufacturers revise figures, and we make mistakes like everyone else.

Email [email protected] or use the contact form, and include the page address and what you believe is incorrect. Corrections to factual errors are made as soon as we can confirm them, and significant ones are noted on the page itself.

Before publishing: Confirm the description of Vlad above matches how you want to be described publicly, and confirm the funding section is still accurate before this page goes live. If advertising or affiliate links have since been added, update that section first.
