A machine for gaming and streaming on one system. The key decision is about encoding, and it is less demanding than it used to be.

Encoding is not the problem it was

Streaming used to need a second machine or a large core count, because encoding on the processor competed directly with the game.

Modern graphics cards include dedicated encoding hardware that runs independently of the rendering units. Encoding on the card costs a small amount of performance, typically a few percent, rather than the substantial hit of processor-based encoding.

So a single-machine setup is now entirely reasonable, and the build looks much like a gaming build with more memory.

ComponentPartWhy this one
ProcessorAMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D or Intel Core i5-14600KEither works. The Intel part offers more cores for the background applications a stream involves; the AMD part is stronger in the games themselves.
MotherboardB650 or B760 ATX with 2.5 Gigabit ethernetWired networking matters for streaming stability far more than for gaming. Prefer ethernet over Wi-Fi for the upload.
Memory32 GB DDR5 (2 × 16 GB)This is the component to increase for streaming. Encoding software, the game, a browser full of dashboards and chat overlays add up quickly.
Graphics cardRTX 4070 SUPER classModern NVIDIA encoders produce good quality at modest bitrates. AMD cards encode well too; check current encoder quality for the specific generation.
Storage2 TB NVMe SSDLocal recordings are large. If you keep recordings for editing, plan a second drive using our storage planner.
Power supply750 W 80 PLUS GoldSustained load for hours at a time, which is why the efficiency and build quality matter more here than in an intermittently used machine.
CaseMid tower with strong airflowStreaming means sustained load rather than bursts. Airflow matters more than in a machine that idles between sessions.
CPU cooler240 mm liquid or a dual-tower air coolerSustained load again. Size for continuous operation rather than for peaks.

What matters beyond the parts

Upload bandwidth is frequently the real constraint. Check what your connection actually provides before choosing a bitrate; no amount of hardware compensates for insufficient upload.

Use the graphics card encoder rather than the processor unless you have a specific reason not to. The quality difference at typical streaming bitrates is small and the performance difference is not.

A capture card is unnecessary for a single-machine setup. They exist for capturing from a separate machine or a console.

How this build was put together

Every component here was selected to serve the stated purpose at the stated budget, and the complete list was run through our compatibility engine before publication: socket, memory generation and slot count, case clearance for the card and cooler, power connectors and supply capacity.

We have not benchmarked these parts ourselves. The reasoning is based on published specifications, standards documentation, and practical experience assembling machines. Where performance figures matter to your decision, publications that run controlled tests are the right source. Our methodology page sets out how we work in full.
